Product FAQ
What does "automatic" and "manual" antenna mean?

The “automatic” antennas search for the satellite with azimuth, elevation and polarization data calculated by the microprocessor. From this point a specific programmable search begins, for example of a 5 ° radius (it can reach up to 25 ° and more). If the signal is too low, the antenna fails to lock onto the satellite and continues the search without results, making it impossible to watch TV programs.

If the antenna is also “manual” instead, once the search is finished, the system will go into “error” mode, it will stop on the theoretical aiming and it will be possible, by acting on the azimuth and elevation controls (directly from the control unit), to search for the aiming that ensures the maximum signal available. Normally the TV decoder, in this way, can still receive TV programs without difficulty. In addition, the antenna will follow the satellite at instrumental level even if the boat moves or turns, thanks to the compass, inclinometers and gyroscopes.

All Navisystem antennas are both automatic and manual, to ensure the best possible performance, in any situation.

What is the difference between the various MST 48/55/65/95 models etc.?

The number 48/55/65/95 indicates the size of the dish in centimeters. A larger dish corresponds to a wider reception area, as well as obviously a higher signal level under the same conditions.

What is the difference between the NT1-3 models and the NT models?

NT1-3 models can receive a maximum of 3 satellites, have 3 outputs for 3 decoders, are powered at 24V dc.

NT models have 12 programmable satellites for each part of the world. Furthermore, with a distribution switchboard, they also allow 40 decoders to be connected. They are powered at 220 V ac (or 110 V ac).

What is the difference between the NT models and the HT models?

The NT models are equipped with the analogue and cheaper Sat 103 control unit. The HT models, on the other hand, are equipped with the digital Sat 105, with an alphanumeric display (16×2 cm) for more complete aiming control. The Sat 105 has a programming menu for total control of the pointing system.

Can a satellite TV antenna receive Digital Terrestrial?

Yes, Navisystem has achieved the double function by using the parabola as a 360 ° directional antenna for the reception of UHF signals.

Can a VSAT antenna also receive satellite TV?

Yes. A VSAT Navisystem antenna can provide up to four services: Hi-speed internet, satellite TV, digital terrestrial and live Meteosat.

I have a VSAT antenna on the right and a tv antenna on the left, not Navisystem. The mast with the two radars obstructs both antennas on some routes. What solution does Navisystem propose?

With a VSAT and TV antenna we can backup the existing VSAT antenna when in coverage or backup to the TV antenna in order to always have both services. The purchase of a new TV antenna and VSAT allows you to correct the existing system, almost completely eliminating the problems.

Alternatively, the old antennas can be replaced with two new (Twin) Navisystems to guarantee two 360 ° services.

Is it possible to receive 2 satellites at the same time, such as Astra and Hotbird?

No, with only one antenna it is not possible because they are satellites too far apart. However, it is possible to simultaneously receive two adjacent satellites with a Navisystem dual feed. It is also possible to have internet and TV at the same time.

With two independent antennas both vsat and tv (Twin system) we can have two services on two satellites without interruptions on 360 °, even in the presence of obstacles between the antennas and the satellites.

Is it possible to install a loudspeaker or horn near the satellite antenna?

Yes it is possible if this is non-magnetic, or it is possible to reduce the interference by compensating with an inverted magnet of equal intensity positioned near the horn. The satellite antenna, in addition to gyroscopes and inclinometers on three axes, also has a gyro-stabilized magnetic compass inside the antenna that allows the satellite to be locked in seconds.
If this is interfered with, the search is extended up to two minutes, then the satellite is correctly hooked up without errors, thanks to the recognition of the “naviber”. If, on the contrary, there is no interference, the antenna locks on the satellite in two seconds.

Is it possible to install an antenna on an iron yacht or ship?

Yes, as explained above the search is longer, then the system starts tracking with the internal gyros. After the compass is no longer needed. If there is a gyrocompass or a compensated electronic compass on board, the connection with the antenna is still recommended, reducing the search for the satellite to a few seconds.

Is it possible to surf the internet via satellite at high speed?

Yes, the VSAT antennas, satellite communication systems, allow you to navigate up to 50 Mbps with the new KA band systems, available from June 2016. This new band may have difficulty connecting due to rain, so it would be better to choose a dual system. KA-KU band to guarantee a very high speed service but also a service that is always operational on the lower frequencies of the KU band.

Is a single antenna enough to have internet and TV?

Yes, our engineers have been designing unique innovative systems for the past 15 years. In fact, a VSAT Navisystem antenna can also work for television programs. It is possible to choose 12 different satellites already programmed, so just choose a communication satellite or a television satellite without difficulty.

Can I receive internet and TV on 360 °?

Yes, we can guarantee two 360 ° services even in the presence of 40-50 ° coverage due to on-board structures, with only two antennas.
The AB-BOX automatic exchange allows in five seconds to move the service from the right antenna to the left one and vice versa without creating inconvenience to the customer.

What do you recommend to aim for four satellites?

It is possible to supply four VSAT and TV antennas to receive internet, sat tv 1, sat tv 2, sat tv 3 or four of the 48 satellites programmed on the four antennas (12×4 = 48). In the presence of obstacles, it is advisable to also install the AB-BOX automatic switching kit, in this way the antennas exchange automatically to guarantee the four services without interruptions. Currently on some yachts to guarantee four services, two VSAT antennas with one switch and six TV antennas with three right / left switches are installed, without guaranteeing for example four television satellites or other combinations as described above.

Does the installation have to be carried out by authorized personnel?

Obligatory yes. The technician will have to issue a test form at sea, after having performed all the necessary tests, this allows you to have the special three-year guarantee.

Should any repairs be carried out by authorized personnel?

Yes, under penalty of forfeiture of the guarantee. Always contact the Navisystem office before calling unauthorized technicians. Navisystem will send the nearest available technician.

Can a TV antenna receive in Europe, the United States, the Caribbean and other parts of the world?

Yes, with our four-output linear polarized universal LNBs and American Directv circular polarized LNBs. In fact, the worldwide antennas, equipped with two LNBs, can receive in Europe, Arabia, North America, Central America, Brazil, China and Africa in a completely automatic way.

What is a dual-band antenna, KU + KA or KU + C?

For special needs, marine satellite antennas can work on different frequencies. A dual-band system can solve coverage problems in areas where one service is absent or when one does not work and the other does. Navisystem has bi-band systems for every need. They can work for television reception or internet connection. In some applications, both may be possible.

Support FAQ
The antenna does not turn on.

Check that voltage reaches the control unit, 24V for Sat 48, 220V (or 110V) for Sat 103 and Sat 105 models. Check the fuses behind the CU and replace them with others of the same characteristics.

If necessary, contact the Navisystem technical service.

The three LEDs "search", "lock", "error" remain on and the antenna does not work.

Antenna does not turn on azimuth axis, open antenna, check belt and azimuth motor assembly. Make sure that the antenna has no obstacles on the 360 ° rotation.

Check belts and pulleys and make sure the motors do not idle.

If everything is ok, do a Master Reset on the CU or contact Navisystem customer service.

The "error" LED flashes.

The antenna has been programmed to receive the onboard gyro but the NMEA183 data does not arrive. The antenna works with the internal compass automatically but signals the error to the user. The gyro is probably turned off.

The antenna switches from the "search" state to the "lock" state continuously.

To verify:

– satellite coverage for the mast of a sailboat, or obstacles on the antenna-satellite trajectory;

– loose belts with mechanical slack, check all axes;

-strong magnetic interference near the antenna such as loudspeakers and horns. These elements must be moved away or compensated with equal and opposite magnets, limiting the magnetic interference to the pointing compass;

– for other cases, contact customer service.
